Max Gaertner

Dr. Max Gaertner is a percussionist, author and educator.

After studies in classical percussion, pedagogy, psychology and contemporary performance at the HfM 'Hanns Eisler' Berlin and the HfMDK Frankfurt, engagements with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Ensemble Modern, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie as well as collaborations with the performance artists Marina Abramović and Lynsey Peisinger resulted.

This was followed by concerts and teaching activities in Europe, Asia and the USA, the development of contemporary mediation concepts, many years of experience as a music school director and the founding and artistic direction of the JugendPercussionEnsemble Hessen. Research projects in the fields of new media, electroacoustic music and artistic research led to publications with renowned publishers such as Schott Music or Are Edition.

Max Gaertner is the author of the textbook series Rhythmical Ear Training, the üben&musizieren special "Was geht APP", the world's first etude booklet with app use APPetude 01 as well as numerous professional articles. In 2021 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the performative realization of electroacoustic compositions.

Dr. Max Gaertner currently teaches at the University of Hamburg and the Berufsfachschule für Musik Dinkelsbühl.
