In 1998 Kenny Dyal was finally old enough to drive, and that very first summer after he went and took a scuba class. That is where it all started.
In 2006, he became a Divemaster for Disney’s Dive Programs at Epcot and even dives as safety for Mickey Mouse himself.
By the age of 30, he opened his own dive shop, all without any working capital. He grew it to achieve some of the highest ratings and accolades available within the industry and even went beyond the coveted “Scuba Instructor” rating to become a Course Director, allowing him to train future Instructors himself. In his own words, the dive shop was “maxed out” within 4 years, nearly outgrowing its space. With no interest in expanding to additional locations, he sold it to start moving on to the next adventure.
He then created a company called “Sweetwater Scuba”, which he uses to share his knowledge and experience with the rest of the world through media and other creative tools.
Today, he makes training and interview videos, bringing some of the most inspiring voices in the underwater world, to the rest of the world. You can find these on Youtube’s “The Scuba Diving Channel” and “Scuba Diving Podcasts” are on all major platforms.
He also created and produces the first of its kind “Down to 60” series, breaking down dive sites and popular skills into one-minute, entertaining, and super-informative videos.
Finally, after spending years diving with Guests at Disney, and running a Dive Shop teaching classes, the NUMBER ONE question we asked was:
“How do you get scuba certified?”
Since that requires a little more than a simple, one-sentence answer, it became clear there was a bit of a knowledge barrier between the industry and the general public.
Kenny believes that barriers should be removed, by breaking down the complete process into a simple, fun story even a child can understand and love.
The Children’s book is the latest tool produced by Kenny Dyal to help “Show the rest of the world, the rest of the world”.
