Dr. Cynthia Cooper is an award-winning educator and practicing Internal Medicine hospitalist. She started writing educational haiku and tanka poems about medical topics as a creative diversion through the worst of the COVID pandemic. Since that time, she has employed the poems as springboards both for her teaching of medical students and physicians-in-training at Massachusetts General Hospital and for the larger medical education community on Twitter. With the poems, she captures a broad swath of Medicine, ranging from common to unusual, aiming to celebrate the diversity, history and mystery that appeals to forever students of medicine. Fan favorites are collected in the series 'Medicine in Brief: Name the Disease in Haiku and Tanka.'
When not attending on the teaching wards of MGH or writing poems, Dr. Cooper always enjoys hanging out with her brilliant husband, hilarious children and marvelous morkie, Moose.
