Dan Harvey

Dr. Harvey is a professor emeritus of Computer Science at Southern Oregon University. Although he has done significant research in parallel programming, load balancing, and cluster computing, his primary work at Southern Oregon University (SOU) was in the area of computational linguistics. In particular Dr. Harvey focused on developing freeware software tools to assist indigenous peoples to revitalize their native languages. The ACORNS project was established for this purpose. Since retirement, Dr. Harvey has been focusing on Biblical Studies. His blog at https://secondlooknow.com presents a more detailed look at his work in this area. His recent book, "Experiencing the Apocalypse" is a semi-fictional commentary to the book of Revelation. It brings the reader back to the first century and interacts with John and those who first encounter this amazing revelation. "Experiencing the Apocalypse" was published in June, 2023. His fist book, "Wrestling with Faith" was published in 2019. Dr. Harvey is working on a second edition of this book.

Education

Dr. Harvey obtained his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) in 2001. He was nominated for the 2001 UTA Outstanding Doctoral Research Student Award. In 2001, his paper on cluster computing was a finalist for best paper at the International Symposium on Cluster Computing and the Grid (CCGrid). In 1999, under a NASA summer grant, he conducted research at the NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, California

Other Experience

Dr. Harvey has extensive experience in industry and was President of an automotive aftermarket value-added reseller for thirteen years. He has considerable consulting experience working with firms such as Dunn & Bradstreet and Honeywell.

Personal interests and achievements

Dr. Harvey completed his 5th marathon at Boston in 1997. He also was the founder of the cross country and track and field programs at Dallas Baptist University from 1996 to 2001. A number of his runners qualified for NAIA national championship meets. Notable achievements include Denny Giles who won the winter national championship in the High Jump. Libby Bloodsworth, was 2nd in the nation in cross country.
