I was born in Manchester and studied English and Drama before going into the world of education which put up with me for quite a while before I managed to escape to Madrid where I live. I spend most of my time writing as well as reading, walking, often aimlessly, around the labyrinthine streets of the barrios, and taking black and white photos of life here.
My first novel, ‘Let the Dead Hold Your Hand’ took me three years to research and write. I spent a lot of time on the magical streets of Cordoba, Granada, Sevilla and Zaragoza reading about all things Arabic and visiting many beautiful locations. The sequel The Daughters of the Dead is out now. My latest novel is The Dream of Monsters. I am currently researching the life of Caravaggio for my next book.
