Nicki Dechert Carlson was born and raised in Kerrville, Texas. She attended Kerrville public schools and graduated from Tivy High School in 1993. While at Tivy, Nicki met John Carlson, and the two began dating and are married to this day. John is a solo law practitioner specializing in estate planning, probate, and guardianship matters. They have three children: Rachel, Grace, and Johnathan.
Carlson released her first book near the end of 2021, "Grace-Faced: Pursuing the Life-Changing Perspective of a Loving God." She has previously written for newspapers, magazines, trade journals, and on her blog “Expressively His.” Grace-Faced has been met with great enthusiasm and praise. One Amazon review states, “Grace-Faced is a book unlike any other I have read. Carlson greets me on her pages like a trusted friend: sympathetic, understanding, and never preachy or holier than thou. Her humorous stories, anecdotes, and personal experiences showcase her openness and non-judgmental style as she walks me through the ways I can seek the face of God.” This reader adds that she plans to come back to Carlson’s book many times over, because its depth offers something new upon every reading.
Another reader comments, “Carlson's conversational style of writing will make you feel like you're sitting across the table from a wise and close friend enjoying a great cup of coffee and quality time together.”
Carlson has been featured in the Kerrville Daily Times, the Hill Country Community Journal, as a guest on Kerr County LEAD and Encore Radio, and as a speaker in many area churches and community groups.
When she’s not writing, Nicki enjoys playing tennis and piano, volunteering at her church and children’s schools, singing, and trying to keep her flower and vegetable gardens alive.
