Where do I start?

It’s probably best to start at the beginning – but to make sure this is nowhere near as long as my books, I’ll keep it brief.

I was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1970, but spent my childhood in Mansfield, Newbury and Carlisle. I had a fantastic time with great parents, who always made sure my sister, brother and I were well looked after and, most importantly, well loved.

I was a confident young fella, always front and centre, with bags of energy, and as a young man, I always had my glass half full. I spent most of my working life in sales, using that confidence and chat to make quite a successful career for myself.

One event that changed my life forever was when I first set eyes on my wife, Debbie. People sometimes say ‘I just knew she was the one for me’ or ‘It was love at first sight’. Well, I can honestly say as soon as I saw her, I knew I’d marry her. And we did – in 1994. We have two wonderful daughters, Heather and Georgina, and four grandchildren.

In June 2022, Debbie and I made the move 471 miles north of Mansfield to Northern Scotland, to a lovely clifftop fishing village on the Moray coast.

So, what about my novels, you may ask? My writing came about after saying for many years that I’d like to write a book. As happens with a lot of writers, it just never materialised. After I decided to leave full-time work and take life a bit slower, Debbie persuaded me to put pen to paper and write my first novel – the first in The Pearson series – The Wrong Man.

I’m also a funeral celebrant. This is something I do on a part-time basis and which allows me to help many wonderful people at such a difficult time in their lives.

So, that’s me in a very small nutshell. The life of M J Elliott on one page.
