Chester P. Michael

Monsignor Chester P. Michael, a Roman Catholic priest ordained in 1942, devoted a substantial part of his priestly ministry to spiritual direction, preached retreats and workshops on prayer and spirituality. A student of Jungian psychology since studies at Notre Dame University in the 1950s, he received a Doctorate in Sacred Theology in 1975 from St. Mary's University in Baltimore. He is the author of six books and wrote and published a quarterly bulletin, "The Open Door," addressing spirituality, theology, scripture and psychology. Msgr. Michael died in 2014; his work continues via the nonprofit The Open Door (opendoorsdi.org) which he established prior to his death.
