Clare Stone

Dr Clare Stone is a registered social work who worked within statutory services before moving into academia at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in England. Her doctoral thesis and published work, considers aspects of competence for social work practice. She has experience of teaching, module leadership and course leadership at undergraduate and postgraduate level and supervises doctoral students. Clare’s current position is as Deputy Head of the School of Social Work, Care and Community with strategic leadership for Students and Teaching. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is a registered Social Worker.

Clare was responsible for developing the Social Work apprenticeship at UCLan which was the first university to receive professional body accreditation and the first to deliver the programme. Clare’s latest research project explores how the Social Work Apprenticeship is being experienced from the perspectives of all stakeholders. Insights generated from the apprentices has recently been published.
