Tammy L. Madsen

Tammy L. Madsen (Ph.D., UCLA) is the W.M. Keck Foundation Chair of Strategic Management and Innovation and a former Associate Dean of the Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara University. She teaches and consults in the areas of strategy, innovation, and business transformation. Tammy’s research examines topics such as co-innovation in platform-based ecosystems, temporary advantage, industry dynamics following a shock, and growth under uncertainty. Her work has received various awards from the Strategic Management Division, Academy of Management (AOM), including the Glueck Best Paper Award, and appears in outlets such as Strategic Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Management Studies, Industrial and Corporate Change, and Journal of Knowledge Management. In addition to Co-Innovation Platforms with David Cruickshank, Tammy co-authored the fourth edition of Modern Competitive Strategy (2016, McGraw-Hill Press) with Gordon Walker. Tammy is the Director of the Strategy Research Foundation’s Dissertation Grant Program, Strategic Management Society, serves on the Board of Advisors, Global Innovation Institute, and has served on the Board of Governors, Academy of Management.

Tammy also holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (UC Santa Barbara) and an M.S. in Systems Management (USC). She began her professional career as a test and evaluation engineer for the weapon control systems on the F14 aircraft and subsequently worked as a design engineer and program manager at Delco Electronics, General Motors.
