Born in Oakland, California, I have lived in several U.S. states and Canada. I currently reside in Peoria, Illinois with my wife, Marcy. Together, we have five adult children who are distributed throughout the country, from coast to coast and North to South.
I went to junior high and high school in the small Illinois town of Alexis, which then had a population of around 1000. I went on to college at Knox College, in Galesburg, Illinois, where I studied Economics and Philosophy and earned my bachelor's degree. I finished my formal education at Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa, where I served as an editor of the Drake Law Review and earned my jurisdoctorate degree.
After a one-year graduate judicial clerkship for the Iowa Court of Appeals, I began my private practice of law in west-central Illinois. Over the years, my private practice became focused increasingly in the field of employment law. After almost three decades, I retired from private practice in 2019 and joined the State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. corporate law department as in-house counsel. I later joined TORC Robotics, Inc., as in-house Associate General Counsel, and then re-entered private practice - now practicing Of Counsel with Davis & Campbell L.L.C., in Peoria, Illinois.
I have written several law review and legal journal articles over the years but self-published my first fiction novel "Schrodinger's Market" in December of 2021. I recently published "The Chicken Thieves of Watertown", and "Jurist: Verdict Without Mercy" with Sterling Letter Press. On September 7, 2026, my publishing company published "Ninety Years Being the Chief" - a collection of tributes, short stories, anecdotes and other tall tales about my father-in-law and authored by his children and their spouses. Marcy and I had a blast collecting, editing, and publishing the book. Several more books are currently "in the works".
In my free time, in addition to writing, I enjoy hunting - from black bears on the U.S.-Canadian border, to hogs in Texas or whitetail deer and wild turkeys in the Mid-west.
