Andy Walmsley has spent his life seeking adventure and thrills through, activities such as motorcycling, caving, mountaineering, and fellrunning. Alas, these hedonistic pursuits have led him, sometimes grievously, to a multitude of knocks, scrapes, near-misses and misadventures.

Yet, despite the loss of an arm at the age of 21, and the severe phantom pain that came with it, he has continued to fully embrace the revels and risks of life - some people never learn. At the same time, he has sustained a 40-year professional career in one of the UK’s biggest high-tech companies, brought up his daughter almost single-handedly (well, literally single-handedly, actually) from the age of 8, and then weathered a second traumatic, life changing, accident as he neared his 40th birthday.

Throughout it all, he has managed to retain his sense of humour - well, he needed to, to come through all this unbowed.

His most recent adventure was to sell up and move, lock stock and barrel, to northern Spain, where he has reinvented himself as a born-again recumbent trike rider.

His is truly a story of phlegmatism, resilience, determination and dauntlessness. Ánimo!
