William Knarr

William “Bill” Knarr has over 50 years of experience in special operations, intelligence, and aviation. He has written a number of books, articles, and studies in support of the US military. His most recent book, coauthored with his wife Marsha, is, “Searching for the Hidden Enemy: It’s 1968 and we Americans are at war abroad and at home.” It’s about his time in Vietnam working with an 11-man Vietnamese paramilitary unit to find and destroy the Viet Cong infrastructure.

Their second book is, "The Third Dimension—Air: The Cold War, Experimental Aircraft, and Parachuting into the Past." It’s about flying search and rescue and other missions in Alaska as well as flying and developing experimental helicopters.

His government sponsored publications include "The Desert Protectors" (2015) about the Sunni Al Anbar Awakening in Iraq and "Mazar-e Sharif: First Victory of the 21st Century" (2021) with Mark Nutsch and Robert Pennington providing firsthand accounts of the first Special Forces team into Afghanistan after 9/11. Bill served 34 years in the military, retired as a colonel in 2002 and was inducted into the US Army’s Infantry Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame in 2019.

Bill holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, masters’ degrees in national security strategy and systems management, and a doctorate in education. He currently lives in Florida with Marsha. He enjoys triathlons, open water swimming, playing the guitar, and appreciating all nine grandkids
