Mense McInnis

Helping others to climb the ladder of self expression, Mense has facilitated children across the primary and secondary age range, to express and develop their creativity in art, dance, poetry and story writing. He draws from his experiences to share with us his debut short story, Friends, Fireworks and Falling Trees.

He uses his engaging insight, to span the transition between the age groups. He captivates his reader’s curiosity with the energy and sensitivity of his worlds and characters. He writes about bravery, self confidence, friendship and teamwork.

With three cats, who are forever bringing home lost birds, mice and once an old purse in a plastic bag, one summer he came downstairs to find five cats eating lunch in his kitchen. Mense uses the lives of the creatures in his garden as a springboard for his second book, The Cluster.

He has just published a selection of poems entitled, Take The Jelly Off The Telly, which are not only engaging and thought provoking, but are also relatable to the experiences of our children. He wrote them, to excite our children’s imagination, develop their confidence and encourage them to read aloud.

He is a long standing member of a fortnightly writing group and has recently completed a Creative Writing Course with Goldsmiths’ College. A self confessed workaholic, he is currently working on another collection of poetry and gathering ideas for a story about a magic door.
