Marc Meisner

Marc Meisner has worked with leading academic institutions, including the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris and the Max Planck Institute in Frankfurt. He studied Moral and Political Philosophy at Paris-Sorbonne University (Paris IV), and the History of Law and Institutions of Antiquity at Panthéon-Assas University (Paris II), where he subsequently taught. He pursued parallel careers in law and journalism.

An honorary member of the Paris Bar, he is the author of six books on the history, texts, and ritual practices of Freemasonry, three of which have also been published in English. His research has appeared in *The Square Magazine*. His work combines historical and anthropological approaches, with particular attention to manuscript sources and the ceremonial forms of Freemasonry.

He currently leads a research group devoted to the early history of Freemasonry and its intellectual traditions. His most recent work develops a ceremonial anthropology of Freemasonry, examining the processes of reception, recognition, and transmission through which a community constitutes itself, recognises its members, and ensures its continuity.

He also publishes as Marc F. Meisner.
