Imre Galambos

I specialise in Chinese codicology and palaeography, with particular attention to the physical aspects of manuscripts and printed books. The material I study mainly comes from medieval Silk Road sites such as Dunhuang, Turfan and Khara-khoto, where languages and cultures intermixed in a stunning array of combinations. My other main interest is the exploration of Central Asia and Inner Asia during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, including the acquisition of manuscripts in north-western China. I am currently Professor of Chinese at the University of Cambridge.
