Mary Benson McMullen

Mary Benson McMullen, PhD, is a Professor of Early Childhood Education at Indiana University-Bloomington where she’s been on faculty since 1993. She earned a BS in sciences at Michigan State University and MS and PhD degrees at Florida State University. She is a former infant-toddler and preschool teacher, and child care center director. Her research, widely published in academic journals and other venues, focuses on quality care and education for children birth-5; relationship-based infant/toddler practices; early childhood professional well-being; and perspectives on early childhood care and education across cultures and contexts. She co-authored Infants & Toddlers at Play: Choosing the Right Stuff for Learning & Development, co-edited the Wiley Handbook of Early Childhood Care and Education, and authored On Being and Well-being in Infant/Toddler Care and Education. Dr. McMullen and her husband Rick (since 1982) live in Bloomington, Indiana where they raised three sons.
