Scott A. Mason

Scott Aiken Mason is an award-winning author, executive coach, management consultant, teacher, speaker, husband, father, and patriot. Through his counsel and his writings, he has distinguished himself as a keen observer and thought leader. A graduate of Duke University, where he was a walk-on member of the basketball team for a season, he obtained master’s (Penn State) and doctoral (George Washington University) degrees in healthcare policy and management while working full time.

Defining events of his Baby Boomer generation have affected him greatly. As a career management consultant focused on healthcare strategy, he has worked with hundreds of large and small health systems (some of which he formed) undergoing the transformational change required of a besieged health system. Through extensive travel to help process change with these clients, he has been privileged to guide talented management teams and diverse volunteer boards in varied communities. His client organizations tend to be extraordinarily complex and challenged to constantly improve their ability to serve the shifting needs of their communities. His consulting career of forty-plus years offers a unique vantage point from which to witness change. Rising above chance to foster intentional change has been his stock and trade. His writing straddles practical experience with academic rigor. He brings common sense to today’s chaos and offers a consultant’s talent for simplifying complex issues. He serves as an Executive Partner to the Mason Business School at the College of William & Mary.
