James Strange

James Strange is an author, educator, and veteran Royal Marines musician whose career spans performance, composition, and curriculum design. As a string and brass player with the Royal Marines Band Service, he performed at major venues and state occasions while developing a disciplined, evidence-led approach to musicianship.

Trained in performance and theory at the Royal Marines School of Music, he earned a Diploma in Music from the University of Portsmouth and later an honours degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Edinburgh, a scientific grounding that informs his clear, methodical teaching style.

He founded Dragonfly Publishing Group Ltd., incorporating independent publishing imprints and record labels that prepare and distribute catalogues of scores and recordings internationally. In 2019 he gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and spent several years in classroom teaching. His work now focuses on turning professional practice into reliable learning materials that help musicians read, understand, and communicate music with confidence.
