RiK Alker didn’t take the scenic path into children’s books — he took the candle lit corridor with the creaky floorboard and the suspicious biscuit crumb trail.

He’s a Lancashire children’s fiction author writing funny stories for age 7+, stitching page turn pace and big laughs with his own ink stained Gormfunk word weaving (expect sudden THUNKs).

Before the stories took over, RiK lectured at university and served on the UK 999 emergency ambulances, where an injury suffered while helping someone became the plot twist that pushed him into writing for his own young children.

Somewhere along the way he also became known on TV and radio as the colourful “ChilliMan” — proof that real life can be just as peculiar as fiction.

He now brings that “life less ordinary” energy into schools too, offering bookable author visits (including assemblies and workshops) and sharing resources for schools and readers via his uk website: rik.
