I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1995 and since that time I have had a very varied and exciting career in nursing and healthcare. My clinical practice includes intensive care of children, adults and people with neurological injuries and disorders. I also have some experience as an inflight nurse, involved in repatriation of British nationals following health problems while abroad. Plus orthopaedics, ophthalmics and urology. I finished my clinical career in the primary care setting in the GP sector as a practice nurse, before joining the University of Nottingham as a lecturer in health and social care. My career and expertise has grown with a MSc in Medical Ethics and higher education teaching experience. I am now currently employed with the University of Lincoln and work as a senior lecturer with the responsibility for running and developing the Nursing Associate programme. The University of Lincoln was one of a small select group of universities that developed the nursing associate programme when it was a concept programme before it being recognised by the Nursing and Midwifery council. As such I have a solid understanding of the needs of the nursing associate learners and how this book can aid in their development.
