Chris Gifford

Hi. I am Chris Gifford, author and illustrator of Best Of Friends. It has taken me until the ripe old age of 47 to realise what it is I would actually like to do with my life. To continue writing and illustrating books from this moment onwards is the dream I am pursuing and to be able to do that full time, as a job, would be nothing short of magic!

I used to draw as a child but never felt I was good enough and in fact, even now, I am in awe at the art I see created by so many great talents. Talents far greater than mine. However what I have only just realised is that great drawings do not simply just come into being, the illustrations you see in books are often the result of many hours of hard work and with no doubt, hundreds of screwed up balls of paper lining many a waste basket. Through hard work and a huge measure of perseverance characters can slowly be brought to life, characters that, as with Mouse and Giraffe, you come to love. I hope you will love them too.
