David S. Law

David S. Law is the E. James Kelly, Jr., Class of 1965 Research Professor of Law and Courtesy Professor of Politics at the University of Virginia and Honorary Professor of Law at the University of Hong Kong. An internationally recognized expert in the comparative and empirical study of courts, constitutions, and public law, he is one of the most cited law and social science scholars in the United States. Law’s work has been featured in a variety of international media, including the New York Times, Harper’s Magazine, the International Herald Tribune, the Globe and Mail (Canada), the Asahi Shimbun (Japan) and the Chosun Ilbo (Korea), and has been translated into Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and Romanian. Born and raised in western Canada, he holds a BA, MA, and PhD in political science from Stanford, a JD from Harvard, and a BCL in European and Comparative Law from Oxford.
