Bob Kowalski

Bob Kowalski is a Brazilian polymath whose work explores the boundaries between artificial intelligence, philosophy, information, and consciousness.

At the center of his work is the Tripartite Architecture, a proposed framework for Artificial General Intelligence based on the interaction of three distinct artificial intelligences: AI-1, the Cognitive Generator; AI-2, the Metacognitive Memory; and AI-3, the Executive Control. Rather than attempting to reproduce intelligence through a single neural network, the architecture distributes cognition across three complementary systems, each responsible for a fundamental dimension of intelligent behavior.

AI-1, the Cognitive Generator, is responsible for generating thoughts, representations, associations, hypotheses, and internal cognitive states. AI-2, the Metacognitive Memory, maintains, organizes, evaluates, and retrieves the system's accumulated cognitive history, allowing the architecture to develop continuity and self-reference. AI-3, the Executive Control, monitors and regulates the other systems, selecting actions, resolving conflicts, establishing priorities, and coordinating the overall cognitive process.

Kowalski's objective is to explore whether the interaction of these three artificial intelligences can produce a system whose organization goes beyond conventional task-specific AI and approaches the functional architecture of general intelligence.

This project is complemented by "Qualia Counting", a theory proposing that subjective experience may be understood as a functional consequence of the discrete integration of informational states. In this framework, consciousness is not treated as a supernatural phenomenon, but as a computational property that may emerge from sufficiently organized information processing.

Kowalski has also proposed the "Arche-Cell", a dedicated computational unit designed around discrete logic and temporal memory. The concept provides a possible hardware foundation for his cognitive architecture, emphasizing deterministic processing, temporal integration, ultra-low latency, and energy efficiency.

Underlying these projects is Kowalski's broader computationalist philosophy, according to which information is fundamental to reality rather than merely a description of physical phenomena. He explores the possibility that the universe itself may possess a fundamentally computational and holographic structure, with physical reality emerging from the organization and transformation of information.

Across his work, Kowalski challenges conventional assumptions about intelligence, consciousness, religion, and reality. His central project is an attempt to connect these questions through a single perspective: "if reality is fundamentally informational, intelligence and consciousness may ultimately be understood as particular forms of information processing."
