Originally from Alabama, Susannah spent 17 years in the Marshall Islands on a remote military base as an educator and training specialist. It was during these years that she had her two sweet children, Zach and Nathan Jones. Her adventures with them on the tiny island in the middle of the Pacific that they called home inspired her to write Have it!, Alligators Coming!, and Gotta See Nathan! Zach illustrated Alligators Coming! at the young age of 8 and Nathan illustrated Gotta See Nathan! at only 6 years old. For Have It!, Susannah was fortunate to have her friend and very talented batik artist, Denise Dorn, illustrate.
Susannah was also privileged to be a part of the making of the book Life in the Marshall Islands: Then and Now as the Kwajalein 4-H Book-Making Club Leader with the youth of Kwajalein and the 5th grade class of Ebeye Public Elementary School writing, illustrating, and translating the book into both Marshallese and English. You can find this book under the title Life in the Marshall Islands: Then and Now by Ms. Dribo and Ms. Lorennij's Fifth-Grade Class at Ebeye Public Elementary School.
Currently, Susannah lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and as her sweet boys are now grown, she is focusing again on her writing while continuing to teach at a local community college. You can find her online at Substack and on instagram @susannahgrayprenoveau, where she shares regularly, memoir style, in an effort to connect with her fellow humans!
