I’ve worked in a variety of formal and antithetical formats. Broken-word prose panels on one end and feature-length novels on the far side. Somewhere down the middle there are stage plays for black-box theater, theoretical essays on aesthetics and art criticism, exhibition novellas, and sci-fi essays. Each its own challenge and thrill. Formats aside, the story abides.

It’s difficult to know where we are. In our contemporary media moment, the stories in which we find ourselves are deeply crisscrossed with a malaise that’s spun out of our collective, amped-psyche of impatience. Where do we go from here? Storytelling is the one trip, the singular journey that takes us far enough from what we thought we knew about where we’ve come.

Mr. Balk exhibits artwork in international exhibition and distribution circuits.

— Mr. Balk’s published works maneuver through states of self-imposed aspirational victimhood, flipping through revolving narrative conventions to explore a proper fit.

— Mr. Balk’s narratives are laboratories, synthesizing formulas of causality to explicate the cultural malaise and the suffocating, amped-psyche of indiscriminate impatience.

Mr. Balk currently resides in Richmond, Virginia.
