Jonathan Bard

Jonathan Bard is British developmental biologist whose first degree was in Physics but who changed to biology as the problems seemed more exciting. His initial interest was in how embryos made tissues (morphogenesis) but he has also published work in theoretical biology (e.g. the mechanisms responsible for vertebrate skin patterns), systems biology (e.g. formal descriptions of anatomical development) and evolutionary biology (e.g mechanisms of tissue variation). He originally worked for the UK Medical Research Council but moved to the University of Edinburgh in 1994 where he became Director of the Graduate School of Biosciences. He is currently attached to the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics and to Balliol College in Oxford.
