Pamela Morrison

Pamela Morrison spent most of her life in East and Southern Africa, where breastfeeding is both the cultural norm and a cornerstone of child survival. Breastfeeding her own sons, including a set of twins, led to an interest in mother-to-mother support. After qualifying as the first International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in Zimbabwe in 1990, she worked in private practice in Harare while also serving on various national breastfeeding committees. As HIV prevalence amongst pregnant mothers climbed to over 30%, global policy to prevent transmission to babies threatened to turn breastfeeding into an endangered practice. Pamela left Africa in 2003 and worked for an international breastfeeding advocacy organization until 2018. She now lives in England where she continues to advocate for safe breastfeeding in the context of HIV.
