Bharatendra Rai

Dr. Rai is Professor of Business Analytics in the Charlton College of Business at UMass Dartmouth. He teaches courses on topics such as Applied Deep Learning, Analyzing Big Data, Business Analytics & Data Mining, Applied Decision Techniques, & Operations Mgt. His current research interests include machine learning & deep learning applications. His YouTube channel that includes lecture videos on deep learning are watched in over 225 countries. Deep learning is a branch of machine learning based on a set of algorithms that attempt to model high-level abstractions in data. Since it performs quite well in a number of diverse problems, Deep Learning is quickly becoming the algorithm of choice for the highest predictive accuracy.

He received Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Wayne State University, Detroit. His two master's degrees include specializations in quality, reliability, and OR from Indian Statistical Institute, India. He has over 20 years of consulting/training experience that includes industries such as automotive, cutting tool, electronics, food, software, chemical, defense, etc., in the areas of Data Science, Machine Learning, Supply Chain, design of experiments, and Six-Sigma using technologies such as R/RStudio software. His work experience includes over five years at Ford in the area of data analytics, quality, reliability, & 6-sigma. His research publications include journals such as IEEE Transactions on Reliability, Reliability Engineering & System Safety, Quality Engineering, International Journal of Product Development, and International Journal of Business Excellence. He has been keynote speaker at conferences and presented his research work at international conferences.

He received an Employee Recognition Award by FAIA for Ph.D. dissertation in support of Ford Motor Co. He is certified as ISO 9000 & ISO 14000 lead assessor, & 6-Sigma Black Belt from ASQ.
