I am passionate about helping parents with practicable solutions to resolve teens' challenging behaviour. I have been married since 2004 (I started early at 24) with two teenage children of my own. In my work life I am an Associate Professor at a leading university, with an MSc from the London School of Economics, an MPhil from the University of Oxford and a PhD from Dublin City University, Ireland. I am a trained researcher in the social sciences with 20 years of experience in the academia and consulting.
I have been studying parenting for over five years now as a part of a research project that focuses on assessing the impact of parenting style on later year entrepreneurial success. We have some exciting results – there is a very good link between the authoritative parenting style and measures of entrepreneurial competence. Hence, behind success stories like Jobs, Gates, Branson, Hastings and Bezos, there are silent hero parents, who require our recognition. In the case of Jobs especially, it would be his adoptive parents. Fascinating story.
Besides the above research project, my interest in parenting is also based in my own children’s developmental needs. When my teens started to develop personality traits which were unfamiliar and not in line with the training we were imparting at home, I knew that I needed help to do my job as a father better. The available parenting advice was useful at a conceptual level but was not wholly actionable. Because of my privileged access to academic search engines and expert colleagues, I began reading about parenting with a researcher’s analytical mindset. What I discovered was a treasure trove of new knowledge not accessible to the public. My passion is to bring this knowledge to you. I have the ability to translate complex academic texts into colloquial day to day language, so you don’t have to labor through complex writing meant for other researchers.
Helping you achieve the best outcomes for your teenagers matters deeply to me. What you’re about to learn has helped me build rich and meaningful relationships with my own teens. I want to help you position your teen to take on the challenges of life ahead with integrity, a sense of duty, wisdom and with a mindset for high achievement. All the while helping you avoid parental burnout and making your way to achieving excellence as a parent.
