Jonathan Coad

I am a media lawyer who specialises in copyright, reputation and privacy. I studied law at Jesus College Cambridge and went on to qualify as a solicitor in a London Law firm. I am the co-author of The Da Vinci Fraud, and the author of Reputation Matters.

I have acted for high-profile individuals such as Lady Gaga, the Beckams, Eminem, Heston Blumenthal, Michael Schumacher, Ant and Dec, and members of the Royal Family. I came to co-write The Da Vinci Fraud because a client introduced me to my co-author Jack Dunn, who made what seemed like the implausible claim that his book The Vatican Boys had been copied by Dan Brown when writing his 80 million copy best-seller The Da Vinci Code. However when I read the two books and looked the evidence I became convinced that he was right. Since then I have acted for him to secure recognition of that fact, and you will find the full fascinating story of our adventure in the Da Vinci Fraud; along with absolute proof that The Da Vinci Code lifted the plot, characters, settings and subject-matter of his book.

Reputation Matters is a labour of love. I have been steeped in the British media for over thirty years, during which time I have learned many of its darkest secrets. As an editorial lawyer I have acted for clients such as Sky, ITV, Newsweek, Viacom and the Huffington Post. This has taught me both how editorial decisions are made and how to infludence them. As a PR lawyer acting for some of the most high-profile individuals and companies in the world, I have learned how to deploy all the regulatory and legal means available to protect reputation and privacy. All of this I have set down in Reputation Matters which I believe will both entertain and inform anyone who is either interested in how the media works, and/or how to prevent it wrecking hard-won reputations for profit.

In my spare time I am a bass-player, playing jazz and gospel. I am a devout Christian and worship at the Redisover Church Exeter, and have two wonderful children, Emily and Benjy.
