Writer/director/producer/author Billie King was born and raised in Compton, California, and now resides in L.A. Spending her life in a city where celebrities pass you on the street daily and sit next to you in coffee shops, King’s fate was written in the stars. It was only a matter of time before she was bitten by the entertainment bug and entered the arena of professional music.
King has directed several music videos, and written and directed , TV pilots, stageplays, and short films. In 2015, she published her self-titled memoir, Billie. The book chronicles her life as a young girl who claws her way to the top after living at the bottom. A Billie excerpt was made into an award-winning short film, The Red Barn, an authentic portrayal of two young girls on a dangerous journey set in the pulsating enigma of Compton in the late 1980’s and ‘90’s.
When she is not busy filmmaking, she engages in her meditation practice and spends her time writing screenplays and children’s books. “The Piper Blu series has brought me so much joy. It is my deepest desire that it do the same for all readers,” says King.
