Can we believe the Bible? The question has forever fascinated me. A deep look into the question compels me to consider the Bible as the work of many hands. However, I part ways with those insisting the characters and situations in the Bible were invented as political symbols hundred of years after the events described. The contents of discovered ancient archives has shed light on the authenticity of the customs and practices of the characters in the Bible. I came to agree with the biblical scholar William F. Albright who said ‘There can be no doubt that archaeology has confirmed the substantial historicity of Old Testament tradition.’
I also find that Jewish legend or aggadah brings its own unique interpretations to the text. The same holds true for ancient and modern midrash which often provides creative perspectives.
I tapped all these resources creating Seeds of Scripture, a fictional account of the beginnings of the Bible.
