Growing up in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo, Lois Yong was always fascinated by the stories that connect us. For over a decade, she lived and worked as an engineer and consultant in Asia, Europe, and the USA, meeting people from vastly different backgrounds — each with their own story. Later, as an educator, she found joy in working with children from a wide range of social-economic and cultural backgrounds. She is thankful that she got to learn more than she taught and continues to be inspired by each child's unique journey.
'A Voice of Her Own' was written in collaboration with her sister, Sarah, a speech therapist in Singapore. It is a story for children with complex communication needs but also for all of us who need a little courage to find our own voices, and inspiration to help others find theirs. At the end of the book, we are reminded of how we are "each distinct, yet curiously connected."
Lois currently lives in Massachusetts with her husband, kids, and sweet schnoodle. She enjoys searching for "untold and unheard stories" and engaging in conversations with people from different perspectives.
