Ana Gabunia

Ana Gabunia was born and raised in Kutaisi, during the darkest times of modern Georgia. She studied French by candlelight, and read stories with her family. It was there, in the flickering light of a single flame, where the dreams of a little girl began to grow into something more.

In her dreams, men and women fought together to make the world a better place, much like what she had read in the oldest Georgian tales. She held onto those dreams, and traveled abroad after graduating. Her career paths led her through the fields of diplomacy, human rights, and journalism, yet she never found what she was looking for.

The truths she sought were not in New York or Paris, and eventually her travels led her back home to Kutaisi. Once home, she rediscovered the beauty and truth of The Knight in the Panther Skin. Viewing the story through the eyes of an adult, she decided to bring the text into the modern world where others could appreciate the depth of its beauty and philosophy.

Her hand was instrumental in the creation of Avtandil’s Quest and the other two books in the trilogy. Currently she’s translating the English version into Georgian, and assisting with translations in other languages. With time, she hopes to see copies of her books available in every language.
