Zalmen Gradowski

Załmen Gradowski (1910-1944) - author of manuscripts written in the Auschwitz camp

He is a Jew of Polish origin born in Suwałki. In December 1942 he and his family were deported to Auschwitz, where his parents and his wife Sonia died. He was a member of the Sonderkommando, a working group that was forced by the Germans to cremate the bodies of victims of mass destruction. In the camp he wrote notes which he then buried in the crematoria. The notes were found after the war. Unfortunately, Załmen Gradowski died during the Sonderkommando uprising on October 7, 1944.
