Originally from Tampa, Florida, J.R. Clark had always wanted to write. At one of her first jobs after college, she authored a monthly advice column, and it was then that she realized she had a gift. People wrote her from different cities in Florida telling her that her advice had helped them escape bad relationships and had changed their lives. Soon after, she began writing plays and putting on productions at both her church and school. Clark also penned several articles for local magazines and for her college newspaper. This book, however, was truly Clark’s “baby:” she worked on it over the course of several years- stealing moments to write whenever she could. “I wrote this book,” she stated, “to bring unity to a world that has been ripped apart by difference and misunderstanding.” Though she wrote this book with children and teens in mind, it is Clark’s hope that people of all ages and backgrounds read this book. “How To Survive the 6th Grade is useful for everyone. It shows how one girl was able to make a big impact at her school with small steps. It is my hope that we can all take small steps to make this world a better place.”
