Jerry Schaefer likes women. But he doesn't like the way they're treated. That explains, Women: DOWN Through the Ages, How Lies Have Shaped Our Lives. Notice: "our lives." Men included. Women (Eve) got the shaft in the Garden, and the shaft continues today. That book came after he retired from teaching middle school for the Los Angeles Unified School District in 2000. He taught Special Education.
Not long after his wife died of AZ in 2018, he wrote, The Story of You, an illustrated book for children. It tells them how beautiful and wondrous they are, as well as the world that they inhabit. Published in 2019, it earned five 5-star reviews from Readers Favorites.
Next came, Cruising through The Teens Easier Than It Seems in 2021. And, Isn't It Kind Of Funny That..., about to be published.
Both of these books have garnered 4 and 5-star reviews.
How does the world work? How do I make my life work? These questions have preoccupied Schaefer's thinking. And they are part of what infuses his writing, as we'll as humor. The world is a funny place, inhabited by funny creatures.
He sees humor, laughter and joy as crucial elements of the human enterprise. He credits the Blackfoot Indians that he grew up with for teaching him this. Another important influence has been Eckhart Tolle, whose Power of Now book he read in 2008.
He presently live in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach, California. The Pacific Ocean is nearby, as are shops and restaurants. He walks to the weekly Farmers Market with his dog, Emma, a papillon rescue. The market is near a large grassy area. Local bands play, families picnic, kids from a nearby school come, and he gets a chance to indulge in his favorite activity, dance.
