Dick Walsh

A Pennsylvanian through and through, Dick was born and raised in Scranton and Dickson City and has made his home in the Keystone state his entire life but for his military service. He earned a Penn State degree in zoology in 1971. Acceding to the ongoing military draft, he served in the U. S. Navy from 1971 to 1979 both as a hospital corpsman and later as a Medical Service Corps Officer. Dick graduated from the Dickinson School of Law (now Penn State Dickinson) in 1982. He then engaged in the general practice of law through 1997 when he successfully ran for a seat on the bench. Dick served as a trial judge from 1998 through early 2013 when he retired. He and his wife of almost 40 years now spend time at homes in Florida and Pennsylvania. Dick and Peg are the very proud parents of Hilary and her husband, Kyle, and Danny.

Dick has had stories piling up inside from a very early age. He harbors a great fondness for his storybook childhood growing up in the anthracite region of northeast PA. His professional life offered little time to commit to writing and he vowed to take up the task during retirement. Following through, he joined a writer’s group in The Villages where, with the help of folks who are proficient at the craft, he continues to hone his creative and writing skills.

Murder of a Beer Buddy became a fulfilling and fun project during the pandemic as it allowed him to collaborate with and learn from six other members of his writing group. What began as a way to kill time ultimately produced a disparate cast of peculiar characters whose stories—when properly knit together—became a clever, teasing and funny murder mystery.

And, as Honey Lovejoy correctly points out, the characters in Beer Buddy are entirely fictional, bearing no resemblance to anyone who would admit to knowing any of the authors. Honey further notes that “all our friends are kind and generous people who buy our books and offer kind reviews.”
