Joy Imboden Overstreet has been a health educator and writer since 1967—always with the intention of empowering others to live more consciously and more in touch with their own internal resources.
The Cherry Pie Paradox: The Surprising Path to Diet Freedom and Lasting Weight Loss, is based on her revolutionary workshop program, Thin Within. In 1975, long before “intuitive eating” and the “anti-diet” were a thing, Joy created this process to deal with her own weight struggles, then shared this framework for self-discovery with hundreds of others in the San Francisco Bay Area, giving participants the tools they could adapt to their own circumstances. (She sold the business in 1980).
Joy has a BA from Wellesley College, a Masters’ in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley. Her articles and essays have appeared in many national publications, including the New York Times, Working Mother, Kaiser Health News, Readers Digest, and others. She is currently a color consultant in Portland, OR.
