Eric and Temeka Thompson are the walking embodiment of what it means to commit to each other daily. In their 23 years of marriage, they have learned the true meaning of what love is. Patient, kind, not selfish, not easily provoked, not proud, not self-seeking, not easily angered. They have seen failures and wins in every area but have found that ultimately, God’s love wins above all.
They met in high school and after a brief courtship, the two young love birds were married right after graduation. It sounded like the love story that was meant to be but then reality set in. They both came from single parent households and had no blueprint on how to do marriage. They were both headstrong, lacked proper communication tactics and the only thing they could hold on to was the faith they were raised on.
Temeka received orders to be stationed in Alaska and before long, their fairy tale melted away and reality TV set in. While in Alaska, they found a church that they thought they could settle down in but soon found that their business was being spread all around the church, and the leadership was plotting the demise of their relationship. Many of their peers would have given up on church after having such an experience. But this did not waiver their faith in God. Instead, they found a new church family in Alaska and this was a turning point in their relationship. The elders taught them how to work together as a team and showed them ways to deal with each other, putting their issues in the proper perspective.
Temeka had a new assignment in Washington DC and they had to leave that ministry behind. They still had so much to learn about being husband and wife and now they were parents. Together they began to mature in their faith. Their insecurities and fears began to slowly subside. In her quest for greater self-awareness, Temeka learned to trust and respect his authority as the head of household. Eric was gaining the wisdom he needed to lead his home and things were revealed to Temeka that would help her to be a better helpmate. Soon she recognized that wives cannot ask their husbands to carry the load for their fathers not being there. Without having a place to target those fears and insecurities, the husband is the one who suffers. Once Temeka started to refocus this energy, their relationship started to improve.
From being in the Pentagon during 911 to pornography addiction to feelings of sucide to feeling betrayed, there is no struggle that Eric and Temeka have not endured. But they continued to choose each other.
Through various talk show appearances, and faith-based individual, couple and group coaching sessions, Eric and Temeka have helped numerous couples overcome seemingly impossible challenges to fortify their marriage. They look forward to serving more couples through their newly released, best-selling book, courses and retreats.
