Marjorie J. Spruill, is the author or editor of numerous books on women's history from the suffrage movement to the present. She is a frequent speaker, consultant, and media advisor on women's history, politics, and the American South. Currently Distinguished Professor Emerita, University of South Carolina, she recently retired from a career of teaching at USC, Vanderbilt University (where she was an Associate Provost), and the University of Southern Mississippi. A native of Washington, N.C., she graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (B.A.), Duke University (M.A.T.), and the University of Virginia (M.A., Ph.D.). Her work has been supported by the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Harvard University; the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars; the National Endowment for the Humanities; the National Humanities Center; the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation; and the American Association of University Women. She lives in Folly Beach, S.C.
