The lens through which Jules Lightfoot views this side of eternity is focused by her loving daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, friends, other family, and by other rays of wisdom from clear places. It has also been sharpened by the reflection of brilliant students and teachers in her education career; they have taught her much. The backdrop for most of her life’s battles and joys has been America’s Midwest with its waters, wild areas, and wonder-filled seasons. She thrives best and thinks most fully when able to spend enough time outdoors using a variety of footwear, clothing, equipment, and flotation devices that take up a large amount of space in her home and garage. She marches to a beat not always heard by those around her, but she will fit in tight places if it can help others experience peace. Widowed at fifty-eight years old, her resolve has been mightily tested, and her heart continues to be rattled by the knowledge that her loss is but a fraction of the suffering known by others.
