When she was in sixth grade, Jane Falter remembers getting an assignment that set-in motion her love for writing. Instead of the required two-page essay, she covered a composition book with construction paper and wrote a short book about Martians landing on Earth. She knew right then and there she would write a book…someday.
Jane would never have guessed back then that writing would eventually center around writing as a passion, a skill, and a career. Although she considered pursuing journalism as a career, her mother convinced her to “Be a teacher, you’ll have your summers off.” Jane did become a teacher, however, with life’s twists and turns over time, she found herself getting married, leaving education, starting a career in human resources and getting a master’s degree in Human Resources Development in her fifties.
Her extensive HR career would include executive-level positions with different companies and industries including AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals and Staples Business Advantage. Through those years, her writing skills would be showcased in numerous business documents including management training manuals and a company’s entire curriculum of a Total Quality Process. And we can’t forget, HR policies. Through the years, she would often ask herself, “So is this it? Will I ever write that book?”
After retiring, Jane followed two dreams, one to get a life coaching certification and the other to move south. After landing in Asheville, North Carolina, she found herself in the middle of the 2008 economic depression.
Jane utilized her HR background and coaching skills to start career clubs to help individuals get back to work. Realizing how much help her club members needed on their resumes, Jane pursued a certification in resume writing, which has become the major part of her business some 10 years later.
Despite starting her new resume business, Jane eventually found the time to get that first book done. “Finally!” she said to herself. In, Born to Ride…Creating a Career Plan for Your Job of a Lifetime, she combined her personal career journey to inspire individuals, and provide tools and self-reflection questions to help the reader identify a career that incorporates their passions. A few excerpts from those Amazon reviews are found below.
In Living Through a Pandemic…2020 in Hindsight, Jane continues to use her writing talents incorporating her optimistic perspective, authenticity, sense of humor, and wisdom. She captures her experiences during a global emergency that lasted much longer than most ever dreamed possible. She hopes readers will be prompted and motivated to remember and record their own stories and insights, both sad and humorous, gleaned from this period of time.
Jane currently lives in the Finger Lakes region of New York State with her pup, Josie. The two were constant companions during the pandemic, and Josie enjoyed the extra-long walks she got to enjoy during this time. Jane has three grown daughters and two grandsons. An only child, Jane considers her circle of friends as her “framily” and has learned to appreciate them even more after living through this year.
