David Vernon

David Vernon writes about literature and classical music, including on Shakespeare, Nabokov, Wagner, Mahler, Beethoven, Sibelius and, most recently, Yukio Mishima. His next book, Never Never Yes Yes: The Novels, Stories and Crônicas of Clarice Lispector, will be published in December 2026.

He studied at Oxford University, before teaching English language and literature in China and Japan. After returning to Europe, he completed his doctorate on Shakespeare's tragicomedies at Freie Universität Berlin and taught for many years in London. He lives in the Highlands of Scotland.
