U.S. Army veteran, family man, cyclist and author of two cycling adventure memoirs.
After 30 years in the pharmaceutical industry, I decided it was time for a change. In 2018, I climbed aboard my Surly Disc Trucker, “Tank,” and rode 3,120 miles from San Diego to St. Augustine on the Southern Tier.
One coast-to-coast ride apparently wasn't enough.
In 2019, I returned to the road to race the 4,200-mile TransAmerica Bicycle Trail from Astoria, Oregon, to Yorktown, Virginia.
Across those two journeys, I pedaled 7,300 miles through 18 states and 528 towns. Along the way, I met some fascinating people, experienced more than a few unexpected adventures, and discovered that it's pretty difficult to explain a cross-country bike ride in a five-minute conversation.
So I wrote about it.
Those experiences became Suit to Saddle: Cycling to Self-Discovery on the Southern Tier and Forty to Finish: Cycling to Victory on the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail. Forty to Finish is now also available as an audiobook.
I live in Williamsburg, Virginia, with my wife and enjoy spending time with our three grown children and family.
I'm always looking for the next adventure.
