Deborah Markowitz Solan

Deborah Markowitz Solan grew up Jewish in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated high school at the age of 16 and was the first student intern at Sesame Street - Electric Company magazines. She graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor of science degree in journalism in 1979.

Deb has had a 35-year successful career in journalism, public relations, and philanthropy and has worked with top corporate and community leaders, university presidents, and physicians throughout northeast Ohio. She retired from her administrative career in 2013 and began a second career as a substitute teacher until 2020, when she took a temporary leave from subbing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She has taught a summer reading program to help inner-city children overcome the summer slide from not reading during the three months of summer.

She has been happily married to her husband, George M. Solan, Jr. for more than 40 years and the couple have a beautiful and gifted daughter, Samantha (Solan) Kacik. Deb lives in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and has been a leader in all aspects of ministry including teaching children and adults, leading women’s Bible studies, and leading missions work and community outreach.

She has been published in Today’s Christian Living magazine, David C Cook Devotionals, The Gospel Herald and Sunday School Times magazine, and The Union Gospel Press Bible Expositor and Illuminator. She is an inspirational speaker and has devoted her adult life to helping people experience the passionate love of God for all people.
