Bridgette Alfred

Bridgette Alfred is a wife; mother; grandmother; great-grandmother; retired army veteran and police sergeant; published author, and cancer survivor.

In August 2014, Bridgette found herself at a new beginning after adjusting to an empty nest, then her vibrant, 92-year-old mother came to live with her and her husband. During their outings to restaurants or church, people often suggested Bridgette should write a book about her mother’s remarkable life and sharp memory. Her mother was enthusiastic about the idea, so they began recording her stories at their kitchen table after church services. However, a few months into the project, she began to lose interest and struggled to recall details, saying she didn’t remember. Bridgette prayed for guidance on how to proceed with the incomplete story. The inspiration that came was transformative. She felt called to write a fictional novel titled When There Is H.O.P.E. (Healing Over Past Events). This book would not only weave in the stories she had captured from her mother but also included her experiences, drawing parallels between the novel’s characters and Biblical figures, demonstrating the timelessness of human struggles and the potential for healing.

Writing When There Is H.O.P.E. became a personal journey of healing for Bridgette as well. She realized that the process was helping her address unresolved pain from her past. The book, which tells the life story of Raynelle Angel Young and her trials from sibling betrayal and parental abandonment to significant loss and betrayal by a spouse also serves to remind readers that they are not alone in their struggles. The second part of the book draws comparisons between the fictional characters and Biblical figures to offer hope and connection.

The initial publication in 2018 was disappointing due to lack of support from the publishing company, prompting her to re-release the book in 2021 under a new title, When There Is H.O.P.E. (Healing Overcomes Painful Events), with a new publisher and a companion devotional book. This re-release represented not just a revival of the book but also a reaffirmation of Bridgette’s commitment to using her story and voice to empower others in their healing journeys. This effort underscores her advocacy and activism, using her narrative to inspire and support others facing similar challenges.

Additionally, Bridgette was part of a collaboration with other writers to published the book, “Women We Are Stronger Together.” She has been featured in Published! and Scar And Survival Magazines. Bridgette has contributed several articles to Urban Sentinel On-line Magazine on many different topics. She was interviewed on the Dr. Gwen Jones Radio Show, Jocelyn Moore Podcast, Nicole Bryant Radio Show, Stephanie A. Bridgette’s life purpose, divinely inspired, is to introduce others to the God of Hope, who shepherds us through life's storms, enabling us to emerge as overcomers. Through enduring a traumatic childhood, being married to an addict who has since fully recovered, and grappling with mental, physical, and financial instability, Bridgette has come to realize that she is not a victim, but a survivor. Thriving as an African American woman amidst these challenges has further solidified this realization. Her journey led to participation in a workshop run by her publisher, who not only educates her clients on how to sell books but also on how to treat authorship as a business. Inspired by this, she founded Bridgette Alfred LLC, a company dedicated to using her personal experiences to create inspirational books, songs, plays, and films.

Bridgette Alfred LLC’s mission is to convey messages that foster compassion, love, peace, and unity, especially in communities still reeling from the pandemic and other life adversities.
