Stephen Altman

Stephen Altman was born in New York City. He was 21 when he read John Keats for the first time. “Keats was the same age when he took up poetry,” Altman says. “For a bookish young man like me it was like having, as your closest confidante and guiding spirit, the greatest English lyrical poet since Shakespeare. These days, I’m a bookish older man but that part hasn’t changed.”
