Hyman M. Schipper

Dr. Schipper received his M.D. degree and a Ph.D. in Neuroendocrinology at McGill University in 1982. He completed residency training in neurology at Columbia University in New York and a fellowship in endocrinology at Tufts (Boston). He is currently Professor of Neurology and Medicine (Geriatrics) at McGill, founding director of the Alzheimer Risk Assessment Clinic (ARAC) at the Jewish General Hospital, and director of a neuroscience laboratory at the Lady Davis Institute in Montreal. His research interests are in the fields of Oxidative Stress, Brain Aging and Neurodegenerative Diseases. He published over 200 articles on these and related topics and is an inventor on 17 patents. Prof. Schipper also writes on the interface between contemporary science and the Jewish mystical tradition (Kabbalah). His research in this area was published in Yeshiva University’s Torah u-Madda Journal (2012-13), in Unified Field Mechanics II (RL Amoroso et al. eds., World Scientific 2018) and Bar-Ilan University’s DAAT: Journal of Jewish Philosophy & Kabbalah (2019). He is the author of Kabbalistic Panpsychism—The Enigma of Consciousness in Jewish Mystical Thought (John Hunt Publishing, 2021).
